Lots of fun things for kids!!! 100% of profits go to Middle Township and Gettysburg College by way of suicide prevention kits, scholarships in Richelle’s name and monies set aside for guest speakers.
CAPE MAY BLOGGER WILL BE THERE and watching for smiles as big as Richelle’s use to be!!!
Perhaps, the scenario is familiar. You were friends for as long as you can remember. You shared your family, your memories, you shared everything. You were best friends and you were lost without her. Your friendship had survived the awkward years of youth and you were proud of her successes. You acknowledged her hard working values. She graduated alongside of you but she was the one that was voted most likely to succeed by your peers and was accepted to an Ivy League school. You were ALWAYS happy for her. Unfortunately, she was never happy inside with what she became. She never gave herself permission to enjoy her numerous successes.
Karen Turnier Rich remembers the day it happened. The day Richelle Renza took her own life. Karen felt helpless as she watched her best friend suffer with depression. What was a friend to do?
Everyone is at a loss when it comes to clinical depression. How are we, as loved ones, to handle these problems and how do we help? Karen, in memory of her friend, has planned a festival event for families called Life Patrol. It is in honor of Richele to address topics like these, also to enable and encourage exposure to the topic of suicide.
Richelle wasn’t outwardly depressed. Ironically, she is remembered for her beautiful smile. You are invited to become educated about depression and enjoy the simpler moments in life that we have with our family. Swainton Station strikes up an affair with balloons, face painting, a dunk booth, and other fun that will make yousmile just like Richele did.
You are invited to remember Richele’s unforgettable smile, but also know the story and the pain behind it to preserve the life of your children and your friends. Are you ready to confront issues of suicide and guard your loved ones against it? Preserve their life and come to Richele’s Life Patrol Festival.

A Guy and a Guitar at the Cape May County Library
My family and I went to the Lower branch of the Cape May County Library on July 22nd (as we do once a week, a new part of our routine that we’re all really enjoying). The first leg of our trip there was same as it is each week. Upon entering the building we made a bee line for the Kiddie Room. My soon-to-be three year old son led the way as he’s getting more and more familiar with the building with each visit. He then spent five minutes looking for all the “really best books” for us to read. I spent that time trying to distract my 16 month old from ripping every single book off every single shelf. We ended up with a book about Santa, a book about trucks, a Winnie the Pooh book and a book about spiders with pictures of real spiders. Talk about eclectic taste.
We generally read 10-15 books, choose our favorite five to bring home and hit the DVD section before we check out. It’s then that I try to persuade my son from bringing home the same miserable dinosaur movie we’ve already borrowed 247,000 times since May.
On this day we only had time to read the Santa book and the spider book and bypassed (by some miracle) the movies all together.
We had a performance to attend, back in the conference room, as part of the library’s Summer Reading Club. We had heard week before that this “Erik Simonsen person” would be coming to sing for the kids. “Cool.”, I thought, “A guy with a guitar, my boys love music, they’ll get a kick out of it!”
I thought we sit through a little “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”, maybe some “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and we’d be on our way. I expected my kids would have a good time…but I never thought that I’d actually be truly entertained myself.
Erik Simonsen was much more than just a guy with a guitar. His entire performance, which was about an hour long, was interactive. The kids were able to be a part of each song, not just by singing along, but with the use of the many props and instruments he brought along for them. Even as young as my boys are, they were both still able to participate.
I found myself a little sad when the show was over. I’m always impressed by the events at the Cape may County Library and by the enthusiasm and dedication of the children’s librarians, but this I have to say, was my family’s favorite event of the summer thus far. We’ll be keeping an eye out to see when Erik will be performing his children’s songs again and will definitely pass the details on to you.
I did a little Google-ing and found that he has a CD for children, “E is for Erik – Fun Songs for Young Folks” which is available for purchase for $10.00 by sending a check or money order to Erik Simonsen, Twelve:01, P.O. Box 1214, North Cape May, NJ 08204 We’ll be sending for our copy soon.

Wupzey Giveaway
I received a item in the mail to review the other day that I wish I would have received 2 years ago. When my son was learning to eat in a highchair I think my dog gained about 10 pounds from dropped food. I hated it to the point that I almost renamed my dog wake “Hover”, “Dirt Devil”, or Urika.
Wupzey is a great product that I wish I had.
It catches all food, drink, and utensils dropped down the front of child in a highchair. It rinses and gets wiped clean and is a machine washable. It dries instantly for reuse. It also is Lightweight and Durable and water resistant. Can you say a friend to a mom….this product is!!!!
Don’t worry about it fitting to your high chair. One size fits all.
I am giving away 1 WUPZEY highchair catcher. Let me know what you love about this product and randomly (with random.org) I will be selecting a winner on Monday, August 7, 2008. Winner must be a member of CapeMayMoms.com or subscribe to the PartyPlanningProfessor email list. Good Luck!!!
